New Zealand Summer!

As the summer heat scorches most parts of New Zealand, we found ourselves in some of nature's oasis! Helping people cool down as they travel around the country, there are some waterfalls that offers free dip into a fresh, cool and clean water system coming from a river plunging into a 10-foot drop or maybe more. My wife and i visited some of these falls during our days off from our busy roster at work to give balance into our life. All we needed is sun-block, enough petrol to go where we need to, a handy GPS equipment (which is ofcourse a smartphone! lol), our water bottle (2L to keep us both hydrated) and cameras! (Nikon DSLR and GoPro Hero 5) First waterfall would be McLaren Falls, located along the Kaimai's or mountain range...you would be looking at 30-45 minute drive from Tauranga CBD. We do suggest that you go there post-opening of the water dam which is regulated by Trustpower, hydro-release occurs mainly on a Sunday. We went here on a Monday which is a day after water has been released from the dam. This will make your trip to the falls all worth it. Due to the hot summer season, the river can dry up and you would not even realize where the water fall is; leading to disappointment especially if you would like to go swimming. (Photo above midway to the water hole below) Another waterfall is Owharoa Falls located along SH2 in Karangahake Gorge, if coming from Auckland it would be on your right side and if coming from Tauranga it would be on your left side just across a one way bridge. (Please research on NZ road code for rules on driving here) People come here to refresh from trekking, cycling or a long road trip. Just a minute walk from the road, you can park your car safely on the shoulder. Behold, a hidden gem awaits!
